House GOP wins bipartisan passage on antisemitism bill as protests flare

The House on Wednesday passed legislation aimed at reining in antisemitism as campuses around the country grapple with tense protests slamming Israel’s conduct of its war in Gaza.

Led by New York GOP Rep. Mike Lawler, the measure — which would add heft to a Trump-era executive order clearing the way for stricter Department of Education enforcement of antidiscrimination laws — passed on a bipartisan 320-91 vote. Many Democrats had indicated they would support it despite criticizing it as an unserious effort to address the problem of antisemitism, and party leaders had not conducted a formal whip operation against the bill.
